About the work:
Ctrl+P34, Original Artwork by Ingmar Apinis.
This piece is part of Chromatic Retreat, a group exhibition showcasing the work of 17 Australian artists exploring their practice within the limits of a largely achromatic palette.
“My work for Chromatic Retreat is a continuation of my ongoing Ctrl+P series, which explores the potential of printmaking techniques to mimic the aesthetic of the internet while emphasising one-off prints over multiples. For this exhibition, I have reduced my typically hyper-colour palette to a soothing sea green, a subtle reference to the oceans we have been unable to travel during the pandemic, and the deep sea fibre optic cables that keep us connected via the World Wide Web,” Apinis says.
About the Artist:
Ingmar Apinis is a Melbourne based artist who uses paint as a medium to explore the role of the Internet in everyday life. He takes visual tropes from online and places them on canvas to critique online subcultures, digital queerness, and representations of the virtual and physical body.
