“I’ve had a long standing fascination with cactuses that began as a young child in my grandmother’s garden. Mum would have to pick the needles from my tiny hands because I insisted on touching them.” Glattauer says.
“Every time I travel back to my native Argentina I can’t help but be attracted by the gentle and omnipresent ‘cardon grande cactus’; that are dotted all over the north west of the country. These toned greyscale photogravure prints are laden with tradition, memories and personal reflections of distant lands.”
About the Artist:
A founding member of The Baldessin Press and Studio, Silvi Glattauer is a practicing photo-media artist who is recognised as an authority on the Photopolymer Photogravure process as well as working with a range of other photographic processes. Her images are about beauty as felt by the sense of sight and touch. Glattauer’s approach is to collect, to archive, to classify and to record. Her narratives are strongly related to storyboards of time and place with a connecting thread between materiality, object and preciousness.
