Artline 70, Original Painting by Billie Justice Thomson
Artline 7, Original Painting by Billie Justice Thomson, Acrylic behind 3mm Perspex, framed in white Meranti timber, 2019
Original painting by Adelaide based artist Billie Justice Thomson, boldly rendered on the reverse side of Perspex. Wildly unconventional in format, this framed work can be hung vertically or horizontally.
In Billie’s paintings, individual objects are depicted in dramatically oversized scale; a potent series of work emerges with an unmistakably offbeat rhythm, and the power to enchant and surprise in a manner that belies the everyday subject matter. For Thomson, it’s about encouraging the viewer to “take stock of the effort, thought and beauty that surrounds us, that has been cared about, and crafted into existence – it’s about celebrating the small things.”
Since completing her painting studies in 2008 at the University of South Australia, Thomson has built up a cult following for her nostalgic style, exhibiting widely in Melbourne and her hometown of Adelaide. Alongside her studio practice Thomson is in demand for commission work, public murals and illustration.
This original painting is part of Billie Justice Thomson’s 2019 solo exhibition “BIG SHOW”.
