About the work:
Companion Vases II, Set of Two Ceramic Vessels by Mali Taylor.
This piece is part of Radiant Dreams, a group exhibition showcasing the work of more than 50 artists from the Modern Times community. Radiant Dreams invited our artists to unleash their most vibrant work, embracing colour, movement and verve. The resulting works are a buoyant collection reflecting optimism, energy and hope as we emerge from the monotonous routine of lockdown.
”This collection of works has been conceived as a product of the ongoing and monotonous impacts of Covid-19 lockdowns. They reflect a desire to be reconnected with the solace that family and community represent, whilst transcending and diminishing the divisions that have ensued. The body of work represents the challenges of physical, emotional and spiritual isolation; by highlighting the importance of connection to community,” Taylor says.
About the Artist:
Mali Taylor is a Melbourne based ceramic artist currently exploring the parameters of coil methodology within her practice. Her sculptural works predominantly investigate; the connection between the ceramic process and the maker’s state of mind, the materialisation of memories, and nature’s methods of time keeping and historical archiving of past events and environments. Whilst her vessels transcend the divide between art object and function- al ware, exploring themes of companionship and community through a contemporary approach to ancient methods and forms. Through the methodical and meditative layering of earthy clay, Taylor’s hand-built sculptures hold time, invoking memories of archaic Australian landscapes.
