Higher Ground, Original Artwork by Caroline Walls

Original artwork by Melbourne artist Caroline Walls, in sythetic polymer on canvas board framed in Victorian ash timber.

Caroline Walls is a visual artist working across a number of media including painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. Walls draws inspiration from the movement and fluidity of the female form; moments of intimacy; contemporary perceptions of women’s sexuality in the current cultural sphere; as well as notions of gender, fertility and motherhood.

This original artwork is part of Modern Times’ group exhibition Ritual Practice.

“For the past five years, I have used art journals to gather new ideas, collect visual references, sketch future compositions and capture fleeting thoughts. I must have about ten of them filled to the brim, collecting charcoal finger prints and paint splatters from my studio. The ritual of reviewing these journals and immersing myself in their content time and again (where I’ve been and where I’ve yet to go) allows me to transition into a creative headspace. The ritual of reading and rereading opens me up and allows me to begin the process of laying paint to canvas.” – Caroline Walls
