Lead Pencil 2, Original Artwork by Billie Justice Thomson

Lead Pencil 2, Original Artwork by Billie Justice Thomson

Original painting by Adelaide based artist Billie Justice Thomson, painted the reverse side of Perspex.

Inspired by everyday objects, Billie Justice Thomson highlights the inherent beauty of the ordinary, giving otherwise mundane objects a shining moment of importance! Wildly unconventional in format, this framed work can be hung vertically or horizontally.

This original artwork is part of Modern Times’ group exhibition Ritual Practice.

“Even procrastination plays a role in the ritual surrounding my practice as a painter. I walk or ride to the studio. After opening the door I can’t just grab a brush and throw myself into painting. There’s a kind of ‘warming up’ process, as I imagine for most, and for me it involves drinking tea, tidying up and sharpening all my pencils. It’s important to take time to patiently look at ongoing work with fresh eyes and this ritual can probably be a metaphor for life, but I’m not a very poetic person so I won’t do that.” – Billie Justice Thomson
