About the work:
Morning Forage, Original Artwork by Charlotte Swiden.
This piece is part of Chromatic Retreat, a group exhibition showcasing the work of 17 Australian artists exploring their practice within the limits of a largely achromatic palette.
“I remember my mum flicking through my photo albums. She asked: “Why do you make your photos black and white sometimes, isn’t that boring?” I didn’t know what to say, some photos are just more beautiful in black and white and I had to have a little ponder on why that is. To me, when making a photo in black and white, it puts the focus on the motif. It also highlights the shadow play and builds a sort of geometry. Painting Morning Forage I wanted to capture that thought process – a still-life in moving light,” Swiden says.
