About the work:
Night Swims / Reflections, Original Artwork by Charlotte Swiden.
This piece is part of Chromatic Retreat, a group exhibition showcasing the work of 17 Australian artists exploring their practice within the limits of a largely achromatic palette.
“For this show, I knew I was really going to have to challenge myself and think differently on how I create since working with colour and texture is one of the most important components when I paint. I asked myself, ‘could there be colour in black and white? Could something appear to be black and white but when we lean in we see the subtleties, like with everything in life?’. Painting Night Swims / Reflections I was searching for a theme that would suit the colour palette, and settled on memories of summer nights at the beach. That’s where I wanted to go, to that wondrous twilight world full of light,” Swiden says.
