About the work:
Surge, Original Artwork by Jennifer Tarry-Smith.
This piece is part of Radiant Dreams, a group exhibition showcasing the work of more than 50 artists from the Modern Times community. Radiant Dreams invited our artists to unleash their most vibrant work, embracing colour, movement and verve. The resulting works are a buoyant collection reflecting optimism, energy and hope as we emerge from the monotonous routine of lockdown.
”The precarious nature of the last two years has forced me to slow down and focus on the intuitive process of mark making and a systematic approach to printmaking. I have allowed myself to be fully absorbed by the act of creating. Whether through painting intricate lines that repeat and converge, the repetition of inking up a plate and printing, building each frame and fitting the artwork; these meditative acts allowing me to think, reflect and clear my mind whilst fully engrossed in a ruminative state,” Tarry-Smith says.
”This series of lithographs are a continuation of this state, however I have spent time experimenting with vivid colour pairings and allowing more fluidity in my drawing. They are the beginning of a new burst of energy as lockdown comes to an end.”
About the Artist:
Jennifer Tarry-Smith is a Melbourne based artist working predominantly in printmaking. She has a particular interest in combining printmaking with her passion for jazz music. In fusing these elements, Tarry-Smith expresses the extemporary and impulsive nature of jazz improvisation in her monotype and lithographic prints.
