About the work:

The Bluff, Original Artwork by Jennifer Tarry-Smith.

This piece is part of Talismans, Rafts, Mementosa group exhibition showcasing the work of the entire community of Modern Times artists. Throughout 2020 artists used their practice to make sense of what was happening, and this show celebrates this rich vein of creative output.

“During months of upheaval, job losses, insecurity, lock downs and social isolation, the word ‘soon’ has been said many times: ‘Things will change soon’; ‘I’ll see you soon’; ‘a vaccine will be available soon’. But how long is soon? Pre-Covid19, I would have said soon meant a few hours, maybe a few days, at most a week. Now, I have no sense of what soon means. Soon has become months or possibly years, it has become an indefinable quantity of time. Whilst waiting for soon to come I found the only way I could retain my sanity was to imagine where I would like to be when soon finely came,” says Jennifer.
