Ingmar Apinis is a Melbourne based artist currently completing a Masters of Contemporary Art at the Victorian College of the Arts. He previously completed a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2000, and a Graduate Diploma of Visual Art in 2001 at the Victorian College of the Arts.
Using paint as a medium to explore the role of the Internet in everyday life, Ingmar takes visual tropes from online and places them on canvas to critique online subcultures, digital queerness, and representations of the virtual and physical body. While the internet as a realm where images are made, viewed and distributed has significantly influenced contemporary art, Ingmar is interested in the potential of the digital world to influence the production of a painted image.
Ingmar has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at a number of galleries and artist run spaces.
