Jennifer is a Melbourne based artist working predominantly in printmaking. She has a particular interest in combining printmaking with her passion for jazz music. In fusing these elements, she uniquely captures the extemporary and impulsive nature of jazz through the medium of print.
The use of chemical processes and cutting and layering to create singular editions eschews the reproductive nature of lithography, and is similar to monotype printing. Jennifer attempts to visualise an artist’s voice and then mimic the form and idiosyncrasies that embellish a certain melody. As a result, her work is a visual representation of the fleeting nature of sound, with particular regard to improvisation, as sounds that are created spontaneously can never be completely reproduced.
