Sean McDowell is a German-born artist currently based in Melbourne. Working between sculpture, painting and installation, his practice explores the vast possibilities that emerge through an exploration of materiality and process. He approaches his practice through the Modernist lexicon of sculpture and painting, which he articulates through his strong understanding of aesthetic principles. McDowell has a particular interest in the ideas surrounding architecture, the field of abstraction and display, which he draws on to create explosive compositions that connect colour, texture and scale.
Sean recently graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Sculpture and Spatial Practice) from the Victorian College of the Arts, where he was the recipient of the Perrin Sculpture Foundry Award. His work is held in private collections throughout Melbourne and Germany and he has been involved in various solo and group exhibitions.
