SZ14 Armchair by Walter Antonis for ‘t Spectrum with New Tan Leather, 1970s, The Netherlands

The SZ14 Armchair was designed by Dutch designer Walter Antonis in the 1970s for iconic manufacturer ‘t Spectrum. It perfectly demonstrates this illustrious era of design with its utilitarian and pared-back aesthetic and combination of materials. The chrome frame bends and folds into a geometric form within which the new tan saddle leather hangs like a sling. With deep seats and low armrests, it’s an effortlessly cool design with comfort front of mind. It’s worth noting that despite giving a machine-made effect, almost all elements of the SZ14 chair were handmade and welded.

Antonis worked closely with designer Martin Visser – another preeminent figure of Dutch Modernism – to steer ‘t Spectrum in a new direction creating innovative designs that reflected a new era of design in the latter half of the 20th Century.

We have a matching armchair so please contact us if you are interested in a suite.
