Designed as part of Cees Braakman’s legendary Oak Series for Pastoe, this small cabinet is a petite yet wonderful showcase of Braakman’s work. The Oak Series was a celebration of timber, and highlights many elegant design and manufacturing elements. First, the stunning finger pulls which run horizontally, gliding across the face of the cabinet with ease. But perhaps the most exciting feature lies inside this small piece – the distinctive rounded edge anti-dust design is both a beautiful curved timber detail and a signature trademark of Braakman’s. It also features a slightly faded yet legible ‘Pastoe UMS Utrecht’ stamp, signifying its authenticity.
This piece is of a high quality and calibre thanks to the designer and manufacturer; the partnership signifies an important period of Dutch design history, and the pieces produced by the pair are highly regarded today.
