Blue Cannoli, Ceramic Sculpture by Annie Parnell
Blue Cannoli, Ceramic Sculpture by Annie Parnell, Porcelain and Glaze, 70 x 130 x 100mm, 2021
About the work:
Blue Cannoli, Ceramic Sculpture by Annie Parnell.
Traditionally in ceramics, skill and control are embraced to achieve desired outcomes, so, what does it mean to embrace chaos? Deviating from traditional processes, Annie Parnell arranges thick glaze with hand-built clay components to provoke chance-based material interactions during firing. The resulting artefacts embody Jane Bennett’s concept of “vital materiality” and form part of Annie’s development of a queer-feminist visual language in ceramics.
