Field Kit #1 in 3D printed clay by Alterfact.  “Field Kit #1 is a play on how the outdoors and a desire for more honest living has created a sector of faux rugged equipment. Perhaps our cynicism towards consumerism has driven this series, where actually, the material does not at all suit the intended purpose. Perhaps, in some post-apocalyptic future, we’ll all be fending for ourselves with our chic survivalist kit, and some ceramic sieves in hand.“

Alterfact is an experimental Melbourne design studio created by Lucile Sciallano and Ben Landau in 2014. Alterfact push the boundaries of clay and play with the connotations of utilitarianism and gimmickry of 3D clay printing, as it moves into a feasible reality. This piece is part of an exhibition kit by Alterfact that is not waterproof and exists purely for the purpose of conversation and sculpture.

This work is part of Material Thought, an exhibition for Melbourne Design Week 2019, of contemporary lighting, furniture and objects by some of Australia’s most innovative and creative designers. Visit our showroom to view the exhibition from March 14th – 24th. Melbourne Design Week is an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV.
