Pupik I Sculpture in Scaglione Alabaster on an Alabaster Base by Carol Crawford.
Carol Lehrer Crawford is an artist practicing in Sydney, Australia. She works interpretively, and is recognised for her organic interlocking feminine forms.
“Common to all sculptures is that they are all an expression of my inner being. They are created as ‘stream of consciousness’ sculptures and are feminine in nature. They all evoke nurturing, soothing and love – they have no hard edges – nothing is measured or perfect. There is beauty in their imperfection, and their imperfections are invocative of what life is all about!”
“Pupik I is typical of my ‘meditations’ in stone – she is created from the purest Italian scaglione alabaster – her soothing twists and turns can be viewed in many different ways. Pupik I is a little gem, she is a woman of many different personalities – and each different light of the day illuminates these personalities. I have intentionally left her ‘matt’ with only the occasional polished surface, because her skin looks velvety with this finish. Pupik I stands proud on a base of scaglione alabaster and her brass turning pin allows her to be rotated without moving the base.”
