Fontana Sculpture Handbuilt in Stoneware with Pink Glaze and Gold Lustre by Bettina Willner-Browne
One-off hand built sculpture by Bettina Willner-Browne. Bettina is a Melbourne based ceramics artist whose practice considers the connection between material, form, nature, architecture and memory within contemporary ceramics.
Palazzo Fontana is a series of hand-built sculptural ceramic works that respond to ancient architectural forms and structures encountered on the artist’s travels. Of European descent, Willner-Browne reflects on a time when she returned to her family’s homeland to live and reconnect with her cultural heritage. During her stay, she explored old cities, their buildings, piazzas and monuments; these memories were rekindled in a more recent trip to Italy. In turn, this new series of work reflects on those structures, recreating them not as replications but as visceral and dream-like interpretations of ancient forms.
