About the work:
Picnic Crowd #12 Red in Stoneware by Lucy Tolan.
The techniques and aesthetics used in this vessel are a continuation of the 2018 series ‘Construct, Disrupt’. Each slab is textured with a plaster mould, they are cut and layered upon one another, slip oozes from in-between the slabs to create a seam. The exterior has a gloss white finish with matte seams and a white gloss interior glaze.
About the Artist:
Lucy Tolan is an artist based in Melbourne. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT in 2018, specialising in ceramics. Lucy collects and creates repetitive textures using natural and self-made objects and hand builds her work using a combination of pinch and slab building techniques. She wants her work to occupy the space where architecture and landscape meet. With repetitive patterns and bold colour, her objects are informed by modernist architecture and have textile like qualities.
