Combining hand-manipulated organic shapes with centuries-old Chinese ceramic forms and complex surface treatments, Yen Qin’s works are a result of a slow, considered and heartfelt dialogue between artist and materials that heighten our sense of imagination.

Yen Qin’s forms begin as perfect forms thrown on the potter’s wheel, inspired by centuries old Chinese ceramics, which and then hand manipulated, resulting in softly warped, organic forms which represent her personal exploration of her heritage. This piece was created for the ‘1000 Vases’ exhibition in Paris, France in April 2022.

About the Artist:

Georgina Yen Qin Lee is an emerging ceramicist based in Naarm (Melbourne). She uses the medium of ceramics as a point of departure for exploring the culture and traditions of her heritage as an Australian-born Chinese Malaysian. All works are made by Lee and fired in her studio in Abbotsford, Victoria.
